About the artist

Fiona is based in Somerset. She has an MFA (Bath Spa University). She exhibits throughout UK and internationally, and is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.

She creates mixed media assemblages, blurring boundaries between sculpture, drawing, and installation. She has a passion for nature rooted in the notion of life’s interconnectedness, cyclical persistence, transformation. She is interested in tentacularity; the complex web of relationships from micro to macro. Materiality and process are key. Her re-appropriation of recycled materials related to waste, our relationship with matter, nature, and ourselves. Labour-intensive processes include weaving, wrapping, hand stitching, soldering, welding and casting.

Although her main form of expression is through visual art, she has collaborated with musicians, poets and dancers. Music has an amazing power to recall memories, and evoke deep emotions. Certain music takes her into a primal place, which she responds to physically through dance. She also loves natural musical sounds of bird, crickets and water. She only reached grade II on piano as a child, but loved playing duets with her Aunt.
